5 Day Japanese Hand Plane Class
5日間 鉋(かんな)コース
〜日本の鉋の正しい仕込み方、研ぎ方、使い方講座〜
講座の概要：
・手鉋のセッティング
・研ぎ方
・曲面鉋の使い方
・曲面鉋の使い方
・鉋を用いた作品制作
受講料は15万円です。（宿泊費、食費、道具代は含みません）
講座は9:00から16:00まで、工房は18:00までご利用いただけます。
Students learn traditional techniques for setting up, sharpening, adjusting, and using Kanna(Japanese hand planes), the most well-known but the most difficult Japanese tool. Students will not only understand about bench planes and be able to produce a precise flat surface, but also get to know how to use Sori-kanna(compass planes), which would let students' possibilities expand and will allow to finish their woodworks without filing.
Class outline:
Setting up a Japanese hand plane.
Sharpening Japanese blades properly
Setting up a Japanese curvature plane.
Making the curvature plane to make curvatures as you imagine
Tuition fee is ¥150,000-.

Lessons start at 9:00 am and finish at 16:00 and the studio can be used until 18:00.

This workshop provides a unique opportunity to learn about the tools and techniques of Japanese woodworking from a real master of the craft with 40+ years of experience.
The workshop itself is newly-built using the very same techniques and provides its own opportunity to observe joinery in action. There's also a museum with chairs built by the master and from all around the world next door, housed in a rebuilt traditional Japanese house.If you have any interest in woodworking with hand tools, studying here is an experience you won't regret!

5 Day Joinery Class
5日間 組手コース
〜日本の手工具の使い方から学ぶ伝統的な組手講座〜
授業の概要：
・日本の伝統的な手ノコやノミの使い方
・「あり組み」「みず組み」などの伝統的な組み木の練習
・組手を使った木箱の製作
受講料は15万円です。（宿泊費、食費、道具代は含みません）
講座は9:00から16:00まで、工房は18:00までご利用いただけます。
Students learn authentic techniques for making 4 types of fundamental traditional Japanese joineries, Sanmai-kumi, Gomai-kumi, Ari-kumi, Gomai-Ari-Kumi. A guidance of the proper method for using Nomi(Japanese chisels) and Nokogiri(Japanese saws) is included as well in order to create perfect joineries. On the final day of the course, students will complete creating a square box with the joinery skill you acquired through the term, which will let students' future crafts have unique expressions.
Class outline:
Learning to use traditional Japanese hand saws and chisels.
Practice traditional joinery including “Arare Kumi”, “Ari Kumi” and “Mizu Kumi”.
Make a joinery box with the techniques you have learned
Tuition fee is ¥150,000-.

I came expecting to learn about the basics of joinery, but my experience was far beyond just that. Sensei Tak is a real master in his craft, and being taught by him has been such an honour. His deep knowledge and passion for the craft is inspiring, and his kindness and humility in teaching despite his status in the world of woodworking was a humbling experience I could not believe I’d be given the privilege to have.
The course was also an opportunity to meet new friends from all over the world coming together sharing the same interest in a beautiful country, which all the more makes it such a unique experience.

4 Week Courses
Intensive Course
Study under fine furniture maker Tak Yoshino and learn to properly set up Japanese hand tools, make traditional Sashimono joinery and experience fine woodworking.
Class outline:
Week 1: Introduction to tools, purchasing tools, setting up and sharpening, practising to hand plane.
Week 2: Sashimono and furniture joinery practice.
Week 3: Using concave hand planes and working with curvatures.
Week 4: Craft what you like while receiving guidance and advice (free use of pine wood. Additional costs may apply for other species).
Tuition fee is ¥600,000-
The tuition fee does NOT include tools.
The tuition fee does NOT include accommodation or meals.
Lessons finish at 16:00 but the studio can be used until 18:00.
Saturdays and Sundays are off days but the studio space can be used.
Those who take the 4-weeks course can participate in the artist-in-residence program for 14 days for ¥150,000- (including accommodation and studio use).
Lessons start at 9:00 am and finish at 16:00 and the studio can be used until 18:00.
We strongly recommended that you purchase some type of travel insurance.
"Wood Culture Talk Night": It is greatly appreciated if participants can have a presentation about wood culture in your hometown or country on the third Friday night, so that world wood culture can be shared among everyone in the studio and on Youtube. Speakers can freely decide the length of their presentation.

滞在3週目の金曜日の夜、参加者の方には、自分の出身地や国の木の文化についてのプレゼンテーションをお願いしています。プレゼンテーションの長さは自由で、トピックも木に関することでしたら自由です。ご予約いただいた方には参考例を共有させていただきます。発表の様子を撮影して当NPOの活動記録として使用させていただくとともに、世界中にいる木の文化を学びたい方に共有させていただきたく思います。

Basic Practice and Free Production Course
This is a special course that combines 5 day Joinery course, 5 day Handplane course and the Artist-in-Residence Program. In the latter half of the period, the instructor will provide closer guidance than the artist-in-residence.
Class outline:

こちらのコースは2つの5日間コース(鉋コースと組み手コース)とアーティスト・イン・レジデンスプログラムを掛け合わせた特別コースです。なお、後半2週間はアーティスト・イン・レジデンスよりも講師が密着で指導します。

1 Day Experience on the Essence of Japanese Woodworking
Explanation and demonstration of sharpening and techniques on using Japanese hand tools.
The Lesson starts at 10:00 am and finish at 16:00.(lunch break 12:00~13:00)
It takes 20 mintutes on foot to the closest convenience store. Thus, we recommend you bring your lunch with you.
Tuition fee is ¥30,000- .

With its peaceful location and Mt. Fuji in the distance, you will not find a more beautiful and inspiring place to make things. If you’re a woodworker or craftsperson, or even if you’re just interested in learning from a true master, this is the place to go. I will definitely be coming back!

日本の手工具の正しい研ぎ方、使い方を学び、好きなものを制作する。（カッティングボード、料理べら、組手の中からお選びいただけます）
授業時間は10:00〜16:00です。(12:00〜13:00はお昼休憩)
一番近いコンビニエンスストアでも歩いて片道20分かかりますので、お昼ご飯を持って参加されることをおすすめします。
受講料は3万円です。
