In this program, you are encouraged to engage in artistic activities based on the skills you have in our woodworking studio with a majestic view of Mt.Fuji. Here is the best opportunity to place yourself in a beautiful Japanese landscape and culture to focus and get an inspiration for your work. Although the studio is equipped only for woodworking, any kind of artists are welcome to our forest.
Residency
Access to the studio facility to work on your projects. Here for the pictures.
Personal workspace of 10㎡ and access to machines (depending on experience).
Access to wood (free use of pine wood. Additional costs may apply for other species).
Accommodation included(a private bedroom with a view of Mt.Fuji and shared toilet, bath, and kitchen).
An orientation will be held at 10 am on the first day to share the use of machines and to recognize participant's experience. Please be sure to arrive at our woodworking studio by then.
We strongly recommended to purchase some type of travel insurance.
Wood Culture Activity
"Wood Culture Talk Night": It is greatly appreciated if participants can have a presentation about wood culture in your hometown or country on the third Friday night, so that world wood culture can be shared among everyone in the studio and on Youtube. Speakers can freely decide the length of their presentation.
I just completed a one month 'artist in residence' stay at the Mt. Fuji Wood Culture Society and I can't say enough good things about the place or the people. The entire team is gracious, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable and talented. They enable you to understand things about wood and tools at a level deeper than you thought possible, and they make possible a level of craftsmanship that you'd just been dreaming about before coming here. And all of that is before you factor in the surroundings:
the sheep, the forest, and the views of the mountain. If you can only come for a day, do it! You will not regret it! - Seth H.
